MobiApp121 Publishing Style Adoption

June 10, 2014 by

Mobiapp121 Publishing is to adopt the UK conventions for style, grammar and spelling, in English language book proofing, for both digital and print versions, unless specifically requested otherwise by authors and clients, e.g. US versions. You can download the Oxford University Style Guide below:

D0es it matter?: We think so because, as well as those we publish, we proof all manuscripts we convert to eBooks and print, unlike the vast majority of eBook conversion services out there. We wish to offer the highest standards of publishing, design and layout to authors and self-publishers we can, and this is part of that service. You’ll find, admittedly, most of our books up till now vary in this respect, but we’ll be updating those published by us in due course. This is only for production proofing and not to tell writers how to write.

Examples please?: Single quotation marks for direct speech instead of US double quotation marks: ‘The kitchen,’ he said, ‘is the heart of the home.’  Commas outside of quotation marks if the original direct speech was intended to have no comma: ‘The kitchen’, he said, ‘is the heart of the home.’ Double quotation marks for quotations within quotations: ‘I think what Alfred Hitchcock called the “MacGuffin”, was used as a plot device,’ she said.

Similarly, spelling will be proofed for UK English: colour instead of color; catalogue instead of catalog; programme instead of program etc.

New eBooks created by MobiApp121

We are proud to have created two new eBooks for author Justin Hill and his Publishing Company Billy Hill Family Ltd. Available on Amazon now!

This is the memoir of Billy and Gyp Hill – Britain’s most successful criminal couple – and Justin, their only child. Billy was the Boss of Britain’s underworld. He introduced ‘project’ crime to Britain and got clean away with the 1952 Eastcastle Street robbery even though the authorities knew that he did it. In 1956, he was at the centre of a phone tapping scandal that led to a Privy Council enquiry. When Billy published his memoir, the papers said there had been nothing like it since the days of Al Capone. Gyp was pure fire and beauty – she fought like a man and was the brains behind many of Billy’s crime successes, including scams to fleece the upper classes at London’s card tables. ‘Mad’ Frankie Fraser said she was ‘the best thing that happened to Billy’. Glamorous Gyp travelled the globe in mink coats and diamonds, partied with celebrities (including the Rolling Stones) and ran a top nightclub in Tangier – with the chief of police as her minder – before retiring to become Justin’s mother and raise him as a law-abiding citizen. She taught him many of her ‘old school’ values. Billy and Gyp’s last fight with the law was to rescue Justin from an abusive children’s home after his birth mother died. Justin saw a lot of his dad before he passed away in 1984 and Gyp told him many stories of their times together. Justin has combined these and his own memories with extensive research to bring you this story of his family.

‘This book is fantastic – read it!’ – Kwadjo Dajan, ITV Drama producer of ‘Mrs Biggs’ and ‘Appropriate Adult’.

About the Author

Justin Hill was born in London in January 1973. The only child of Billy and Gyp Hill. Justin lives in Essex.

Billy Hill’s classic 1955 memoir, reprinted with a modern introduction by his only son, Justin. Billy writes about an extraordinary life of crime and punishment and his rise to the top of Britain’s gangland. This book details Billy’s sensational heists in the 1950s, for which no one was ever convicted. It’s an entertaining read, giving the reader insight into what made Billy tick. ‘Boss of Britain’s Underworld’ caused a media storm when it was first published in 1955.

MobiApp121 has created a cool eReader App, available on the Google Chrome store:

It is totally ePub 3 ready! This means you can read multimedia eBooks with Video and Audio. Self Publishers will appreciate the development tools such as EpubCheck, to test the compliance of their new books.

If you don’t normally use Google Chrome then you can simply add it on in that browser and then create desktop shortcuts to launch the App separately.

It has a really nice clean face that you can make full screen and provides a very pleasant desktop reading experience.
